Wow, I cannot believe we are at the end of the first 9-week grading period. Time flies when you are having fun. The students and staff have really been working hard to get the year off on the right track.

We are currently celebrating Red Ribbon Week with various engaging activities and discussions centered around making healthy choices and staying drug-free. It is wonderful to see our students actively participating and showing their commitment to leading a positive and drug-free lifestyle. Thank you to the student council for organizing this event.

Our Parent-Teacher conferences are October 25th from 3:30-8:30. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to discuss your child’s progress and set goals for the remainder of the semester and school year. Also, during this time, our school improvement team will have computers set up for parents to participate in a climate and culture survey. This survey allows our team to collect feedback from our stakeholders on how we can improve our school experience for everyone.

We are hosting our first book fair since pre-Covid. This will be open the week of October 23-27th. The fair will be open during the P-T Conferences for your shopping pleasure. Thank you, Mrs. Valloff, for organizing the fair and providing a fantastic opportunity for students to explore and purchase new books.

A hot topic in education is artificial intelligence (AI). AI is becoming more prevalent in various industries, including education. I wanted to take a moment to explain how AI can be used in our school to enhance the learning experience for your child. AI-powered educational software can be utilized to personalize instruction, identify areas for improvement, and offer immediate feedback. This technology can allow us to tailor lessons to individual student needs, ensuring that each child receives the support they require to reach their full potential. Our staff will continue to explore how AI can assist Scranton Public School in providing a world-class education. While AI offers numerous benefits, it is essential to address concerns and ethical considerations related to it as well. These concerns include data privacy, the potential for bias in algorithms, and the need for teacher training to effectively integrate AI into the curriculum. AI is transforming all industries. It is important that we embrace it, learn to use it to our advantage, and keep our students on the cutting edge of what their future holds. I am planning to organize information sessions or workshops to educate both parents and students about AI in education. I am hoping this will help foster a transparent and informed community that can work together to ensure the responsible and effective use of AI.

As always, our extra-curricular activities are busy with some sports seasons winding down, some just getting started, and others just around the corner. Our music department has had a busy month with a high school and junior high concert. On top of that they traveled to Belfield to participate in Choirfest, a concert that included choir students from Bowman County, Hettinger, South Heart, Belfield, and Scranton. Our Student Council, FBLA, and FFA are busy as usual and keeping all our students engaged in the community.

As we navigate through the school year, I want to express my gratitude for all our stakeholders’ support in providing a top-notch education here at Scranton Public School. Your support and involvement play a crucial role in our students’ success, and I am truly thankful for it.

Sincerely,

Kelly Pierce
