How is it possible that we are over a month into the school year? The students have been super busy and we are proud of their efforts to get the school year off on the right foot.

We are doing our best to provide a top notch education for our students. We have had a heavy equipment simulator trailer from the Southwest CTE Center in Dickinson parked behind the school. We have several students working on Cat excavator and loader simulators as well as a CDL tractor trailer simulator. The students have been busy learning about the movements of these heavy equipment machines in a hands-on environment. In addition to the simulators, we have also purchased two new 3D printers for our students who have engineering career aspirations to explore and create on. As a school, we must continue to provide as many real world opportunities as possible.

Parents, we would like all of you to stay updated on the happenings at Scranton School. Please upload the Scranton School App so you have up-to-date information on the great things happening. Here is a link to the App.

On October 8th, the Scranton School Board and Administration would like to invite parents, community members, staff, and students to a strategic planning meeting in the Scranton Gym at 7:00. As I have stated many times, education is changing. We are preparing students for careers that have not even been invented yet. As a school, we must look at our course offerings, daily structure, and work-based learning to make sure our students are prepared for their futures. We are hoping we can get a great turnout so that we can have stakeholder input in helping guide what Scranton School can become. We want to continue to evolve and develop strategies that will keep our school growing as a learning community for our students.

Here is a link to our high school website page. I wanted to specifically share this in our newsletter as there are links to our course catalogs and all the unique courses our students have opportunities for. We may be a small school, but we have access to some great learning opportunities for students. If you have students in junior high, take a look at these courses and discuss with your children the different opportunities they have. Mrs. Doerr helps develop rolling plans for all students, but we would love to see the students and parents looking at these opportunities together. We are in year two of using "Win at Social" as part of our cyber security plan. We know technology plays a growing role in students’ lives — whether it’s A.I., texting, gaming, or simply hearing about social media and devices from friends or siblings. That’s why we take a thoughtful, age-appropriate approach to helping students build healthy, high-character habits they can carry into any situation, both online and offline. There is a great family portal that can be used to see a lot of the topics we are introducing and behaviors we are reinforcing.

How Your Family Can Participate in Win at Social:

  • Register your free account for The Toolkit. Many families refer to this as the CliffsNotes of social media and technology! Go to the Toolkit, click Activate Account, and enter our school code: Scranton School Code - 3c85F2127CF1F7

  • Continue the conversation at home: Each month, Family Huddle questions may be emailed to you as a follow-up to student lessons. These short, optional prompts can spark meaningful conversations and reinforce your family’s values.

We have so many great events coming up. Homecoming is next week and the activities for the week can be found on the school calendar. We will have October 15-19 off from school for teachers convention and a nice fall break. When we get back we will have our parent teachers conferences from 3:30-8:30 on October 22nd. Be sure to check our app and calendars for the many great school events we have planned.

I want to thank our community for the tremendous support in the past. We will continue to provide the best experiences possible for our students, staff, and entire community.. Our students and staff know what a wonderful community we have and will continue to represent this great community to the best of our abilities. We look forward to having a great 2025-2026 school year. Soar Night Hawks Soar!
