Greetings!

Winter is fast approaching. Our fall activities have concluded, and we are now gearing up for our winter sports and activities. It is hard to believe that we are just a month away from completing the first semester of classes.

I want to remind all parents and guardians that the weather is changing, and it is crucial for all students to dress appropriately for bus rides. Whether commuting to and from school daily or participating in our activity trips, students must have hats, gloves, and warm shoes. In wintry weather, our bus drivers are instructed not to allow students on the bus without the proper attire. We appreciate your cooperation. If your child needs help obtaining suitable clothing, please feel free to call the school.

I want to give a shoutout to our high school mentors and the staff in charge of making sure our mentoring program continues to provide support for our students. This program provides additional support and guidance to our students by pairing elementary students with high school mentors. We believe that mentoring plays a crucial role in the personal and academic development of our students, and we are enthusiastic about the positive impact this program has on their lives. The mentors and mentees participate in activities bi-weekly to foster the growth and support we want.

We are thrilled to announce the introduction of an innovative tool that will enhance our students' reading experience and skills—the Amira AI Reading Program. Amira is an advanced artificial intelligence program designed to support and accelerate the development of reading proficiency in our K-6 students. Developed by experts in education technology, Amira provides personalized, interactive, and engaging reading experiences tailored to each student's individual needs.

Key Features of the Amira AI Reading Program:

  • Personalized Learning: Amira uses adaptive learning algorithms to tailor reading activities to your child's unique strengths and areas for improvement. This personalized approach ensures that each student receives targeted support to enhance their reading abilities.

  • Interactive Reading Sessions: The program offers interactive reading sessions that engage students in a dynamic and immersive learning experience. Through these sessions, students can develop fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills in a fun and interactive manner.

  • Progress Tracking: Amira allows both teachers and parents to monitor a student's progress in real-time. Detailed reports provide insights into the areas of focus, milestones achieved, and areas where additional support may be beneficial.

  • Accessibility: Students can access the Amira program from various devices, making it convenient for them to continue their reading practice at home or in any location with internet access.

  • Support for Diverse Learners: Amira is designed to accommodate different learning styles and paces, providing support for diverse learners, and helping each student reach their full potential.

We believe the Amira AI Reading Program will make learning to read more enjoyable for our students and contribute significantly to their overall literacy development. We are excited about the possibilities that the Amira AI Reading Program brings to our students.

As mentioned earlier, we are just a month away from the end of the first semester, and time is flying. I encourage our students to engage in the extracurricular activities we offer, such as the Science Olympiad team, FFA, FBLA, student council, and other opportunities. These activities contribute to a well-rounded education, and we are always looking to expand our offerings to provide even more opportunities for our students.

On behalf of the entire Scranton Public School community, I extend warm wishes for a joyful holiday season. We have exciting events planned at the school in the coming months, and I look forward to seeing you all as you continue to support our students. Go Night Hawks!

Best regards,

Kelly Pierce
